Our client is a highly acclaimed engineering business. You will be responsible for the specification, design, development and testing of electro mechanical inspection systems, and associated handling and test equipment.
Working with a team of Design Engineers in order to find engineering and detail solutions to complex mechanical and electronic design and development problems in time and on budget. The solutions must be able to work first time with a high degree of reliability.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Produce layouts, detailed design schemes and engineering drawings that fully define the product.
• Recommend / choose proprietary components and materials as to achieve project deliverables.
• Produce design solutions to complex electro mechanical problems that consider standardisation , value engineering , maintainability and meet project timescales and budgets.
• Lead , supervise and control design projects conducted externally.
• Produce basic design calculations , plans and estimates where necessary.
• Plan and conduct small scale design verification test work.
• Design and develop products which satisfies the customers technical requirements and meet both timescales and budgetary constraints.
• Supervise design projects which utilise external draughting resources.
• Develop standards and practices to be adopted for both internal and external design projects.
• Development of test skills.
Core Competencies Required
• An experienced Designer/Design Draughtsman familiar with 3D CAD and manual draughting techniques is required for this post. Training will be given on Pro E.
• Able to demonstrate leadership abilities via the control of multi disciplinary project work and the coordination of the workload.
• Possess necessary technical skills to produce basic design calculations in providing solutions to engineering problems.
• A round background of both practical and technical experience that can be applied to solve engineering problems and plan and conduct small scale development test work.
Knowlwdge / Skills to include:
• Mechanism design
• Electro mechanical packaging
• Stress analysis
• Pressure vessel design
• Materials selection
• Thermal design
• Component selection
• Planning and execution of test work including analysis of what the test results are saying
• Manufacturing techniques
• Managing small teams of engineers and designers
• Experience and understanding of 3D CAD models & drawing creation BUT not necessarily doing it themselves. (Engineers for engineering and Designers for modelling and draughting work)
• Some knowledge of pipeline inspection equipment would be an advantage, but is not essential.
• Experience of FEA or CFD detailed experience is not required.
