    Up to £46,000

    Our client, a respected, established and successful Engineering Company, is seeking to appointment a central buyer, to develop their core material supplies strategy on a central basis (co-ordinating various "site specific" projects both nationally and possibly internationally). initially setting up suitable systems to help ensure that materials are effectively procured and managed. Ultimately, this principal will be rolled out to cover the majority of materials requirements.

    The role will require negotiation of supply contracts and discount strategies with suppliers, to obtain on behalf of the company beneficial supply and delivery rates and timescales.

    Overview of Role:

    • Set up of materials procurement / management systems to supply sites.
    • Liaison with sites project management teams to achieve a timely procurement and delivery timescale in line with the project needs.

    • Maintain a log of supplier offers and abilities and to supply this to the project sites such that selective procurement can be made.
    • Develop the central purchasing principles across the majority of our supply needs whereby around 80% of each projects material needs are centrally procured.
    • It is envisaged that the central buyer position will extend to cover the raising of purchase orders directly, a role currently undertaken centrally by the finance department.
    • It is envisaged the central buyer position will assist the new works enquiry team in obtaining competitive supply prices for inclusion within new bids.
    • It is envisaged that the position will also develop to encompass the central hiring of plant and equipment across all sites and maintaining the timely supply and cancellation of hire contracts to maintain cost effectiveness.

    Additionally, it is envisaged that should the central buying strategy prove advantageous from a value perspective, that the central team will expand as required to encompass all of the buying criteria we will have, therefore the initial position will develop into Buying Manager with a small team able to offer a wide range of cost benefits to the company.

    Individual Requirements:

    • An experienced buyer, preferentially from an engineering / manufacturing background.
    • Preferably with CIPS or studying towards.
    • Able to implement management systems to enable the successful central buying of materials.

    • Able to work alone and together with the entire Project Management team to effectively manage the materials purchase and supply.
    • Able to develop the central buying business to encompass the scope outlined above.
    • Develop the central buying scope and in doing so submit to Management a cost effective plan to build a small buying team, this will include projections to indicate the forecast savings by extension of the team.
    • The individual must posses good computer skills, be able to communicate effectively with other sectors of the business and above all to have keen skills of negotiation to provide the most beneficial purchasing agreements with suppliers.
